What a winter that was; it started raining on the 24th of December and didn't stop for nearly two months... monsoon style. The locals around here are telling us that is has not rained this much for nearly 50 years. All across Andalucia roads were washed away and rivers burst their banks.
Spring is now in the air and sunny days are prevailing once again, temperatures hovering around 20 - 25 degrees, perfect MTBing weather. While the Junta de Andalucia play catch-up on their road works we are getting ready for the Cortes 60 Enduro, on the 24th April.
The 60 is a 65km loop starting and finishing in Cortes De La Frontera; there is 2500m altitude gain within both the Guadiaro and Genal River valleys. Those of you who have ridden with us here know that these valleys have some tough climbs with gradients of 30% in places. Add to that some rocky single track and long descents, you have yourself a pretty big day in the hills. The back drop isn't bad either.
Check out the slide show.
If you are interested in entering get in touch ASAP as there is a limited entry and the 60 is very popular. The price is our usual 450 euros for a week stay (21st - 28th) plus 30 euros for your race entry. We will do some easy pace pre race riding in the days before. We will also provide a five week training plan; There isn't really a better way to get into shape for the summer season.
If you don't fancy the enduro but want to come on one of our regular weeks we now have limited availability in April and are fully booked from 12th - 26th June.
Book early to avoid disappointment.
All the best
Christian

2010 New Year Newsletter
2009 was a fantastic year and we would like to thank everyone who came out here and rode with us. We are proud of our 100% customer satisfaction rate and it's great seeing your big grins after spending a week in the mountains with us.
Here are some quotes from our guest book
…”awesome week on awesome trails”… ”this was an outstanding vacation”… “without doubt some of the best mountain biking I have ever done”… “the best accommodation we have stayed in on any mountain bike holiday”… “every day another classic ride, unforgettable”… “first class guiding”…
'09 Round up
- Last year definitely had an All Mountain theme to it. Over the year we completed well over 150,000 vertical meters of climbing and descending on some truly epic riding.
- Six new routes opened up, most notably those in the Genal Valley.
- We bought a Renault Traffic van; it can carry 6 people along with their bikes and associated paraphernalia for riding. Perfect for blasting around the mountains.
- We have started the process of converting our olive grove over to organic production.
- The swimming pool has been converted to a chemical free system.
- We have bought six large retractable Toldos (shade sails) for our terraces. Along with the furniture to go with them these have created some great chill out areas where you can escape the midday sun.
Plans for 2010
Too many things to go through here but just some of our 2010 plans include:
- In addition to our normal daily riding schedule we are going to add in some optional shuttle assisted descending.
- New routes coming online in the Genal valley Alta and some high altitude rides in the Sierra de las Nieves.
- Christian is planning to take part in the 101(km) enduro race held in the spring.
- We will donate 10% of our profit to environmental causes or foundations.
Happy trails for 2010.
